1.2.0

This release exists to move the installer and the upgrade tool out of every project and into one published package, @lonestone/boilerstone-cli. Until now, each generated project carried its own copy of that code. The copies went stale with every fix, and install.sh repeated the installer in shell.

A new project now starts with one command:

Terminal window
pnpm dlx @lonestone/boilerstone-cli init my-project

A CLI only creates the release that has its own version. @lonestone/boilerstone-cli@1.2.0 creates v1.2.0, so pinning a release means pinning the CLI. Releases published before the CLI (v1.0.0 and v1.1.0) can no longer be used to create a project.

The generated list of changes is in CHANGELOG.md. The reasons behind the CLI design are in the body of its squash commit (#159).

  • Nothing breaks. An existing project keeps working as it is.
  • The CLI becomes a command, not a dependency. The adopt-published-cli intention switches the boilerplate and rock scripts to pnpm dlx. boilerplate always runs the newest CLI, because the newest CLI does the upgrade. rock is pinned to the release the project tracks. Apply this intention first: it comes first in the release order.
  • pnpm rock does less. It only sets up the local environment: .env files, ports, Docker and migrations. It no longer renames packages or deletes files, so it is safe to re-run. The rename happens once, in init.
  • Three other intentions change behavior. Read them before you apply them:
    • sentry-traces-sample-rate: Sentry traces are off unless TRACES_SAMPLE_RATE is set. Before, a DSN turned them on at 100% in development and 10% in production.
    • upgrade-vite-8: the SPA and SSR apps move from Vite 7 to Vite 8.
    • auth-string-fields-as-text: Better Auth string fields are generated as PostgreSQL text, and an existing jwks table is patched too. Long JWKS keys no longer fail to insert.
  • The other intentions are smaller fixes and documentation updates.
